A very Happy and Healthy New Year to all of our website visitors.

I did ring in the New Year at the now famous Possum Drop”  at Clay's Corner with Pam Roman(Chamber Exec.Dir.) and her husband Don and it was thoroughly enjoyable even with the cool temperature in the low 30’s. Finding a place to park was very easy even at our arrival time of 10:30pm. There were helpful and pleasant parking attendants to advise you of a nice spot and the 3-5 minute walk to the “Times Square” of Brasstown was also fun as you walked with other spectators and passed several vendors on the way including one that offered a much needed cup of fresh hot coffe and some sweets at a very reasonable price.

The next 2 hours were filled with some great singing by the Brasstown Baptist Church Choir and good entertainment by the “Barker Brothers” (with mom and dad). The large screens that were set up to view the stage were very handy to allow spectators on the “hill” facing “Times Square” and everyone short and tall to see the happenings on stage. Of course, the “womanless” beauty contest was very entertaining along with the new “Bull-riding” event and we were lucky that no one was injured by one of those farocious Bulls. The National Anthem was done beautifully and the moments of silence after the tribute to our fallen soldiers gave us all a few minutes to be thankful for what we have in our great country. The lowering of “Opie” and then the really great “fireworks” brought a fun evening to a close. Having lived in large cities like New York and Miami most of my life I was extremely happy to see some “just plain good old family-style fun” with a civilized crowd and great people under the leadership of Clay. I witnessed no abuse of our guest of honor and certainly hope this tradition stays around for years to come.
